The small town of Venoor, situated about 69 km from Mangalore, 30 kms from Dharmasthala is famous for the Gomateshwara statue installed in 1605 by an Anjila prince,Veera Thimanna Aiila IV.  Moodabidri, which is close to Venoor is described as "Jaina Kashi" and is known for its 18 basadis, the most famous of them being "Savira Kambada Basadi" (thousand pillar basadi).
