50 burial grounds constructed 
As many as 50 burial grounds were constructed in several parts of the State under the aid of Dharmasthala Community Development Project, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade has said.  
Speaking at a function here recently, Dr Heggade said that as many as 65,000 books would be distributed to students under the value education project. Dr Heggade felt that the recent increase in the crimes rate was an indication that the society is being misled by its leaders.

DK banks agree to help fishermen in distress 
Minister of State for Ports and Fisheries K Jayaprakash Hegde has said that prominent banks of Dakshina Kannada district had agreed to convert the short-term loans taken by the  fishermen into a long-term ones in the wake of reported fish famine along the coast.  
The banks had also agreed to waive the penal interest on the loans taken by the fishermen, Mr Jayaprakash Hegde added.  Talking to reporters at the Fisheries College here on Tuesday, Mr Jayaprakash Hegde said that he had discussions with the officials of the Canara, Syndicate, Corporation, Vijaya and Karnataka banks and they expressed their readiness to help the affected fishermen of the region.  

Folklore meet 
A folklore conference will be organised at Parivar Panchalingeshwar temple of Panja near here by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and Karnataka Janapada Yakshagana Academy on November 1 to celebrate the Rajyotsava.  
Janapada Academy President Dr Kalegowda Nagavar will inaugurate the conference and Tulu Academy President B Vivek Rai will preside over the function.

NMPT adds another feather to the cap 
The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) on crossed the one million MT mark in LPG handling, with the discharge of 13,000 MT from Shipping Corporation of India LPG carrier M.T. Maharshi Vyas for Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited. 
As per the report,  NMPT modified berth number 9 in the year 1996, at a cost of Rs 9.5 crore, for handling LPG tankers in parcel size of up to 30,000 DWT. In all 108 vessels have been handled during the past two years.
